At the heart of the Cambium Square development will be The Park - a vibrant, multifunctional green space designed to support community wellbeing, biodiversity and sustainable living.
Homes will overlook the park to create a safe and welcoming environment, with strong natural surveillance helping to encourage everyday activity and social interaction. A network of landscaped walking routes, including an east-west meandering path and the north-south Foraging Route, will connect people through the space and encourage exploration of the natural landscape.
The Park will provide generous open space for informal recreation and kickabout, alongside dedicated play areas for children aged 5–10 and 10–15, carefully integrated within a richly landscaped setting. Flower-rich meadows, Cambridgeshire-origin orchard trees and habitat features such as bird nesters and insect hotels will help support local wildlife and enhance biodiversity across the development.
Sustainable drainage features, including swales and underground attenuation systems, will be woven into the landscape design to help manage rainwater naturally and support climate resilience. Structural tree planting along the northern and southern boundaries will provide shade, seasonal interest and habitat connectivity throughout the year.
Residents and visitors will also be encouraged to engage with the landscape through Cambium Square’s foraging route, featuring a carefully curated mix of edible fruits, nuts, berries, herbs and flowering species. From familiar favourites such as crab apple, cobnut, elderberry, wild garlic, strawberries and blackberries to more unusual varieties, the route will offer seasonal interest, opportunities for discovery and additional biodiversity value.
Rest points and seating will be thoughtfully integrated throughout the park, creating places to pause, connect and enjoy the surroundings.
